Nike Air Max RK61 / Air Afrique

Nike's first collab with Air Afrique is an homage to travelling in style, infused with Nike DNA. The Air Max RK61 (RK being Air Afrique's airline code and '61 being their first year in operation) is a loafer that crosses borders, generations and style. Aero details dot the shoe: along the outsole's edge there's Morse code—the preferred long-distance communication in aviation's earlier days— and inside, the jacquard sockliner recreates the pattern used on the airline's seating. The Stadium Green Air bubble is visible from the shoe's side and underfoot, while up top the custom zip pull mixes in a dash of metallic luxury. Air Afrique came about in 2021 when a group of young Parisians from African diasporas, inspired by the historic airline, created a cultural platform dedicated to Afro-diasporic art, conversations, knowledge and aesthetics.
