Nike celebrates the deep heritage and long-standing history that makes Norfolk State one of a kind. And we're doing so with the classic Air Max 95. Stacked layers of full-grain grain leather, synthetic leather and suede—all in Norfolk State colors—Court Green and Midwest Gold honor the university's spirit and its beloved Spiro Spartan mascot. Pointed details complete the shoe with the Norfolk's logo on the tongue label, and the school's rally cry, "Behold the Green and Gold" printed on the upper. The origins of Norfolk State University trace back to 1935, when it was then known as the Norfolk Division of Virginia Union University—a private Baptist institution with just 85 students. In 1942, it became the independent Norfolk Polytechnic College, then Norfolk State College in 1969 and finally gaining university status and its current name—Norfolk State University, in 1975.
